UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT NORTHERN DISTRICT OF CALIFORNIA
November 21, 2015: It’s a momentous and important time in American Native Culture Civil Liberties. A Federal lawsuit has been filed by Matthew Pappas Law Offices on behalf of Oklevueha Native American Church, Spanish Forks, Utah in the United States District Court: Northern District of California against Sonoma County Sheriffs Dept., Edmund G. Brown, Jr. (Gov. CA) and the State of California to address violations on Federal and State statute regarding Native American Freedom of Religion and violation by Justice Department of American Indian and Land Use Provisions Act and AIRFA as well as California State Constitution statute and precedence.
It is ONAC’s desire to see the State of California and Sonoma County to abide the Federal and State statutes against discrimination and cease all violations of Oklevueha Native American Churches federally recognized legal status, rights and priviledges to practice Native American Religion without prejudice and interference. Furthermore as some of the more than 50 counts amount to criminal violations ONAC is asking for penalties and punitive compensation commiserate with the offenses.
Stay tuned! We will file updates as available.
